CURRENT EVENTS

This year, the Township received an Issue II grant from the State of Ohio – Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) Local Transportation Improvement Program (LTIP) for repaving projects. The Township will repave TR 56 from Route 20 to TR 93 and TR 28 from Route 20 to north of the railroad tracks. The total cost of the project is $195,000 and the grant will pay for $78,000 of the cost leaving the Township with a balance of $117,000. The project will begin this summer. 

The fire department received an Assistance to Firefighters grant from FEMA’s Department of Homeland Security in the amount of $47,075 for the purchase of 20 sets of turnout gear and air bags. The total cost to the township for this equipment will be $2,477. 

A new fire / rescue truck has been ordered from Horton Emergency Vehicles. The new truck will cost $526,270, and thanks to the residents’ support of the fire levy, the truck should be paid off before it is delivered later this year. 

Sandusky County has installed the new Marc® radio system for the EMS and Fire Department for enhanced state-wide communications. 

The Township received a matching grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry for the removal of ash trees in the Township in the amount of $19,000. The Township will attempt to eradicate over 200 ash trees located throughout the Township on Township properties and will replace about 60 trees with a different variety in Westwood Cemetery. 

The 2009 - 2010 Township Audit was just completed by the state auditor’s office with no remarkable findings.
